You may have noticed that the new EFF website gives out a session cookie. We realize that many EFF constituents may be concerned by this, and we fully share your concerns. We hope to disable these cookies as soon as possible. In the meantime, we've made sure that our site's visitors' privacy is protected.
Here's what's happening: EFF's new site is powered by Drupal, the open-source content management system. Drupal, by default, sends a temporary, non-persistent session cookie to your browser when you access the EFF site. However, you are not required to accept this cookie, so if you disable or reject cookies, it will in no way affect your experience on our website. Also, if you choose to accept the cookie, it will only last for the duration of your current browser session. This means that as soon as you quit or shut down your browser, the cookie expires.
So why not simply disable all cookies right away? Unfortunately, because of Drupal's technical structure, it is difficult and time-consuming to prevent it from setting this cookie without being certain it won't break the website. We know that this is important, and we fully intend to disable the cookies as soon as we can do so confidently and safely.
