They work to reduce environmental risks based on scientific information, and they work to ensure federal laws regarding human health and the environment are enforced fairly and effectively. Created in 1910, the EPA consolidated in one agency a variety of federal research, monitoring, standard-setting, and enforcement activities dealing with environmental protection.
