EFF Senior Staff Attorney and Kahle Promise Fellow Corynne McSherry will be participating in a panel discussion speaking on "The Digital First Sale Doctrine: Who Owns — or Licenses — Digital Products and Content?" The panel will debate several ongoing cases that may define whether purchasers of games, music and business software are “owners” or merely licensees, and whether the first sale doctrine has any continuing viability.
This is the first LA event of a new continuing CLE program, the NARM Entertainment Law Conference Series. NARM has traditionally been the organization of record retailers, but in the past five years NARM has re-invented itself as THE organization where the entire music industry collaborates to support and promote consumer music products and services.
The conference includes panels on the continuing evolution of secondary copyright liability (factoring in the recent Veoh and YouTube decisions), copyright termination, and the caselaw and Copyright Office rules regarding content protection and anticircumvention.
