EFF is extraordinarily pleased to announce that Jon B. Eisenberg will be joining our legal team as a Fellow. Jon is a renowned appellate law expert with more than three decades of experience, and has argued a dozen cases in the California Supreme Court and dozens more in the California Courts of Appeal and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. He is the principal author of “California Practice Guide: Civil Appeals and Writs,” which is widely considered the definitive guide to California appellate practice.
EFF members may know Jon best for his work on Al-Haramain Islamic Foundation v. Obama, one of the cases challenging the government’s illegal surveillance that began in the Bush era. In Al-Haramain, the exact facts are held under tight seal, but it appears the government accidentally released documents to an Islamic charity and its lawyers disclosing that they were the subjects of warrantless wiretapping. The case was argued at the Ninth Circuit in June, where a ruling is pending.
Jon was recently named “of counsel” with Horvitz & Levy. Previously, he was a partner at the Oakland, California firm of Eisenberg & Hancock. Welcome Jon!
