More than 15,000 people have signed onto our Defend Innovation campaign, demanding much needed change to the broken patent system. This is the time to act: key members of Congress—and even President Obama—are ready for patent reform. We're planning on compiling your feedback into proposals for reform that Congress can understand—and can act upon. If you haven't spoken up or signed on yet, now's the time.
Almost a year ago, we proposed seven ideas to fix our patent system in crisis. These including reforming everything from litigation to the application process to patents themselves. More importantly, however, our Defend Innovation campaign's main job was to solicit feedback from you—software engineers, lawyers, academics, and all. What do you feel is wrong with the current patent system? What changes do you think should be made?
We aren't wedded to our original ideas, and many of you have proposed excellent changes and ideas of your own. Keep them coming! Read through our proposals, give us your feedback, tell us your tales. We've been busy on our end talking to engineers, entrepreneurs, investors, and tech lawyers about how patents are affecting them. Ultimately, a synthesis of horror stories and well thought through reforms might just be what lawmakers need to reform this broken system.
