We are in the midst of an historic expansion of internet domain names with more than 1200 new generic top-level domains (“gTLDs”) now competing with <.com>. Accompanying these new gTLDs are new mechanisms for enforcing trademark, copyright, and other regimes that profoundly affect freedom of expression. These mechanisms are little understood and have tremendous potential for abuse, but they have the potential to impact millions of Internet users, especially website owners, bloggers, small businesses, and nonprofit organizations with a Web presence.
At this conference, EFF Senior Staff Attorney Mitch Stoltz will join policy experts and domain name industry leaders to discuss domain name companies' role in regulating website content. Advance registration required, but free.
