Infrastructures of Control: Security and Surveillance in the U.S. Borderlands

Infrastructures of Control: Border Security and Surveillance is an outdoor photo exhibition of more than 30 images of surveillance towers and other security infrastructure along the U.S.-Mexico border made by Colter Thomas as part of an ongoing visual research project with Dugan Meyer. Thomas and Meyer are University of Arizona geographers who traveled the entire border following EFF's map of surveillance towers (and locating news ones as well), which will also be showcased in the exhibit alongside other materials from their project and a replica surveillance tower. Join Thomas, Meyer and EFF Director of Investigations Dave Maass for an opening night tour and discussion in the courtyard of the Environment and Natural Resources 2 (ENR2) building on UofA's Tucson campus. The exhibition will run from April 12-26.

About the Speaker:

As investigations director, Dave Maass researches and writes about surveillance technology, government transparency, press freedoms, the U.S.-Mexico border and immigration enforcement, prisoner rights, and other digital rights issues. He leads the Atlas of Surveillance project in partnership with the Reynolds School of Journalism at the University of Nevada, Reno, where he is a Reynolds Scholar in Residence.
