Action Alert: The Clock is Ticking

Dear Community Members, and Friends:

On Tuesday, April 3rd, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors voted for a second time to approve the Safe SF Civil Rights Ordinance (file #120046). Introduced by Supervisor Jane Kim in January, the Ordinance has six sponsors at the Board of Supervisors including Board President David Chiu. More than 70 legal, civil rights and community organizations have endorsed this legislation. It provides much needed civil rights protections around the SFPD's collaboration with the FBI, upholding San Francisco's values, protecting California Constitutional rights, and ensuring police oversight and accountability.

The Ordinance is modeled after legislation enacted last year in Portland. We're following their lead, and know that protecting liberty is a key component of effective national security work. To learn more about their success, be sure to read this piece by Portland's Mayor, Sam Adams, published in the SF Chronicle yesterday.

Ask Mayor Lee to Sign the Ordinance!

The Mayor has 10 days to sign or veto the legislation, and needs to hear from the community. We anticipate that he will reach a decision sooner than that. Now more than ever, we need YOU to speak up.

The Time is Now! Take Action:

1) Email the Mayor to urge him to sign the Safe SF Civil Rights Ordinance

2) Call the Mayor to urge him to sign the Safe SF Civil Rights Ordinance: 415.554.6141

3) Increase your impact by sharing this with your contacts and urging them to join you in taking action
