Palestine Digital Activism Forum (not EFF) will host this event. EFF's Jillian York will be speaking.
Palestine Digital Activism Forum
From the Organizers:
Palestine Digital Activism Forum (PDAF) 2024 aims to put Palestinian digital rights as a priority both regionally, and globally, in an attempt to mobilize an intersectional struggle for a safe, fair and free digital space for all. AI technologies have already started to shape our lives, and they will soon have an even greater impact on the world. The Palestinian experience shows us that we must be cautious when it comes to AI. In convening allies from civil society, academia, industry as well as activists and human rights defenders, we hope to start the necessary conversation around ensuring AI is developed with the respect and dignity of peoples in mind.

Talk Highlight: AI in Times of War: Gaza, Automated Warfare, Surveillance, and the Battle of Narratives
This session will discuss how AI has been weaponized against Palestinian people in the context of war and occupation. It will explore how AI is used in military and surveillance contexts, such as the use of the Gospel target-generating system during the war on Gaza, and the use of AI facial recognition surveillance technologies across the occupied territory. It will also explore the risks of automated content moderation, generative tools, and data set biases in systems which often lead to discriminatory practices, dehumanization, and a false understanding of what is happening in Palestine and Israel.
